Either way, this means that Gotham Knights is also not connected to Suicide Squad. Details are still sparse on the new Suicide Squad game (it's set for release in 2022), so we don't know just yet what the connection is. Making matters more confusing, Rocksteady Games's next title, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, looks nothing like the Arkham games but is reportedly set in the same universe. Is Gotham Knights connected to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League? Montreal has confirmed it's completely separate though, so we can look forward to a completely new Batman universe with new possibilities. Considering this is very similar to the idea that Batman: Arkham Knight's story ended on, thinking Gotham Knights was a continuation is totally understandable. It's easy to understand why people would be confused though, since the game was revealed with a teaser trailer where Batman has seemingly died via an explosion in the Batcave. The studio's Gotham Knights, which was announced at DC FanDome, is not a sequel to the 2015's Batman: Arkham Knight from Rocksteady Games.
So even though Gotham Knights wasn't teased as connected to the Arkham universe, you can see why there were some questions as to whether it actually was. WB Games Montreal isn't the primary studio behind the Batman Arkham series (that would be Rocksteady Games), but it was the main studio behind Batman: Arkham Origins in 2013.
